hatchling house gecko?.... care advice needed asap!

sleepofapples Sep 18, 2005 10:18 PM

today when i was taking care of the animals in the infirmary at the petstore i work at, i found a small critter keeper with some eco earth and moss in it... under the moss was a tiny gecko baby... from tail tip to nose it is about an inch long.. no one who was working had any idea where it had come from... so i dont know what kind he is or what brought him to the pet store.. i am thinking it is a baby house gecko since we have a lot of them loose in the store.. possibly one of the employees found it and put it back there.... he looks a lot like the adults but it is hard to tell since he is tiny.. his eyes seem huge and disporportionate to his head.. is this normal? the closest pic of him i can find is a turkish house gecko (Hemidactylus turcicus)...

at any rate.. i have no idea how to care for hatchlings.. i have him in a large critter keeper with eco earth and some moss to keep the humidity up.. there is a piece of egg carton in there for him to hide in and hatchling/pinhead crickets i gathered from our cricket bin.. i have read that leopard geckos have a yolk sac that they feed on for a couple of days before they start eating and that they will shed before starting to feed on live prey.. is this true of all geckos? i want to do the best i can to keep him alive.. i need to know if there is anything additional i should be doing for him.. i know most geckos dont drink from water dishes and i am afraid he will drown if i put one in there.. so how often should i mist? does anyone know of a good care sheet for hatchlings? i couldnt find anything useful.. thanks so much in advance for comments and advice!

just remembered.. there is a possibility that it is a crocodile gecko (Tarentola mauritanica).. we have those in the store too... i dont know how to ID it at this size... and not sure if care would be a lot different... just thought i would add that just in case it helps provide info...
