whistling?

Blake_Herman Sep 18, 2005 11:47 PM

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced their carpet python(s) whistling when they get excited or start breathing a little harder (for example when they are taken out and handled)? I have two young jungles that are doing this right now and I have checked their mouths for infection, but they look very clean. Again, this is clearly whistling and NOT wheezing. There are also no other signs or symptoms of an RI. Their cages are kept at 90 - 91 degrees with about 60% humidity... am I doing something wrong? or is this just nothing to worry about?

Nothing to worry about at all. All of mine get excited and impatient with me when handled, and they all do the same thing.

Was there a particular melody you could recognize?

My eastern indigo does something similar. It's not a whistle, so much as a loud exhale, almost, but not quite like a hiss. It's not weazing, but it had me concerned when I first heard it...untill I was assured by more experienced persons that all indigos do this. She does it when there's food around, when I open the cage or mist it, or when I take her out or if she's trying particularly hard to climb up or through something.
