TURTLE TANKS

Sallie_keeper Sep 19, 2005 02:10 AM

What do you all think of Turtle Tanks.. Those fish tanks designed for turtles..with hole half way down glass for filters, etc.. I am shopping for adult tank for my RES hatchling and want to get opinions before I dish out the dough...

thanks,

Harpy

I would just buy a normal aquarium, a 55gal should be ok to start. I don't like holes in my aquariums because they can be a pain.

IMHO, those are overrated. They seem to make the entire overall frame of the system weak, though I've never used one so I can't say if perhaps it just seems that way in the store.

They are also seriously overpriced. They were running $60 for one at the local petstores for a 20L, which was running $35 at the same store for the regular 20L. And for what purpose? Either way you have to buy a filter of equal size.

I would suggest going with the regular tank as well. I like for my turtles to have a lot of space for swimming and playing. Also, you may have already thought about this, but don't make the same mistake I made and buy a tank for now. Make sure whatever you get it is big enough forever. I started out with one RES in a 10 gal, now I have a 2 RES, a Yellow bellied slider, and a Razorback musk. I must have bought three or four aquariums before I finally got one big enough. You think oh this one is cheaper and he can live in it for a while and then you have to buy a bigger one later. I would go with the regular aquarium and about 55 gal or maybe a little bigger for one turtle.
