Waterfall in Crested Setup

Sallie_keeper Sep 19, 2005 02:16 AM

Hi all. Was wondering if I added a mock waterfall to my 30 gal crested tank, would the humidity be too high for gecko??

I am setting up a heavily planted terrarium for my 4 juvie crested geckos and want to add a water feature..the easiest being one of those tabletop waterbowls..or zoomed waterfall..whichever is best for tank...

Do you think it would be ok, or not good idea???

Tell me what you think

it really depends on the size of the enclosure and what the enclosure is made of. in my experience, foggers/waterfalls turn out to be too much of a hassle. if you're putting it in an aquarium i would definitely say no especially if it is under 30 G in size, because there is likely going to be a problem with having too much humidity with all 4 sides being enclosed. if you're going to try a fogger you may want to consider only using it for 1-2 hours a day, and to suspend it away from the ground and to keep it enclosed so the geckos cannot come in contact with it. one method i've seen that worked quite well was to put the fogger into a plastic deli cup or something with pre-punched holes in the sides. locate it towards the top of the enclosure, and the fog can roll out the holes in the top but will still keep the water and fogger clean from any contamination. this will also keep your geckos safe.
