Pics of my new Gargoyle Geckos

Lyn Sep 19, 2005 07:52 AM

I think this is the place to post on them? I used to have Cresteds and at that time there was an actual "Rhac" board here, but it seems to be gone.

I bought 3 Gargoyle Geckos yesterday at the Buffalo NY Show. I have enough info as far as care, but I am curious about the various patterns.

The male is full grown and was labeled as "Blotched" for his pattern. I got him from Rhac-n-Roll. I've named him Gryffindor.

The other two I bought from Aaron's Frog Farm, they are not guaranteed females since they are still young, but so far they look to be female and that is what most of his babies turn out to be. So fingers crossed. These two were labeled "Striped". He said when they get older they will get more orange on them.

Hopeful Female #1 (no name yet)

Hopeful Female #2 (no name yet)

I am curious if these are the only two patterns that they come in or are there other patterns?

Also, I see that these guys are harder to handle than my Cresteds used to be. The Cresteds would jump, but they'd "prepare" for it and I could anticipate when they were going to jump and where they were going to jump. I could then move them so that they'd either stop and not jump, or would jump somewhere safe like to my shirt or the top of their tank.

The Gargoyles don't seem to get geared up as much, I can't anticipate their movements as well. Do they ever adjust to handling or are they more of a "look but don't touch" species?

I was told that the striped ones were a result of a striped being bred to a blotched, so I'm curious, if the stripes are females and I breed them to the blotched male, will I get all stripes, or some of each?

I bred Leopard Geckos this year. It was my first experience in breeding and I just loved finding the little babies when they hatched. I would think hatchling Gargoyles must be pretty darn cute too. I kept all of the baby Leos that hatched this year, just couldn't part with them.

Thanks for looking at my pics. Hopefully this is the right forum to be talking about Rhacs in general now. I just love these guys so much already!

MAGNIFICENT gargoyles, love the orange blotch and the little strip is really quite attractive also with his orangeey color.

aww so cute...and this is the rhac forum

stripe is recessive and I only know of mottled and striped...some have orange and some don't

I finally got a male stripe (the only available one I saw) and he's not as patterned as my female

and great name...I got my female over a year ago and her name is Griffendora lol...so I named the new male Harry Potter

the female used to be more skittish but is a lot better...the new male is pretty freaked out and so I've left him alone since he doesn't seem to be eating well yet

female

male
