redbellies in PA

billysbrown Sep 19, 2005 08:55 AM

Hello,

That last post reminded me - I've been looking for redbellied snakes in PA. I know they do not occur in SE PA where I live, but I was wondering if anyone had any tips of where to check out around PA or strategies for finding them.

Thanks!

Redbellies are actually quite common in PA, but not in the Southeast part where you live. They are easily found in the mountains of NorthCentral PA, and in the Pocono Plateau north of the Blue Mountain. I've found them under rocks and logs, in forest clearings and around old farms and homesteads. Good luck!
