Gluing FRP to MDF

David2donna Sep 19, 2005 09:44 AM

Is there a best method for attaching FRP to MDF? Should I use Lquid Nails, spread contact cement over the whole surface, or what? Thanks, David

There is an adhesive made specifically for FRP. I think it is a contact cement but I'm not sure. Ask at your local home improvement center.

There is also another product which allows FRP to be re-positioned for a few moments and to have an high spots flattened out. Unfortunately that product is mail order only and I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it. But that is a nice feature over regular contact cement.

One product I used with good success was Vulkem, a polyurethane based caulk. Strong stuff. I squeezed into onto the substrate and then smoothed it out with some slightly soapy water and a piece of plastic. Then I just pouned the FRP or whatever I was attaching onto the substrate. I think I also weighted it down with cement blocks or something.
