My new crested gecko

Mothi Sep 19, 2005 03:15 PM

Here is my new crested gecko I got on Sunday. I picked him because of the nice colors he has and how he has a nice dark background. (I say he even though I don't know if it is a he or she.) What age will I know what color morph he is?

Right now I am feeding him baby food and crickets. I am thinking about getting that complete diet powder stuff you mix with water made by T-Rex specifically for crested geckos. Is it good? Anyone here using it? Anything bad about it?

Right now I am keeping him in a large critter keeper with paper towel bottom.

Congrats on the new crestie, they're a really fun gecko to keep. If you don't know how old it is, I'd say wait about 6 months to see what it's colors will do. That's how long mine have taken, but that may not be long enough or short enough. With yours though, you probably have enough now to make the call. If you go over to the Crested Geckos (Rhacodactylus) forum there are people who know more than I do about colors and such. The crestie diet is a very good food for them. It's much more balanced than baby food which is like candy for them. I feed mine that and crickets right now, but I'm going to try silk worms to give them some variety. I also give mine fresh fruit periodically too. Hope this helps.
