Dwarf Market Question

heartmountain Sep 19, 2005 09:58 PM

What's the future market of dwarfs? And what about half breeds with the possibility of some morphs being bred into them? My wife seems to think that it's a good idea but with her track record on investments I'm not so sure (her last idea was geckos, jesus what a mistake lol). I'm more of a python guy anyway and honestly don't really know much about the boa market in general let alone dwarfs so I'm looking for some opinions... should I give her a few grand to go play with or just go buy myself another ball lol?

Thanks
Sean

In 2003/2004 I could buy a hypo Nic for much much cheaper than a hypo Columbian, because they were far less refined in appearance (less selective breeding) and it seemed every reptile store in the city got a ton of them imported. Then an article about dwarf boas came out and the prices went crazy. So here is my concern. No one wanted them in the recent past and morphs are imported frequently so they were cheap. A magazine article seemingly puts them in high demand and the price goes up sharply and suddenly. How long will this bump last? They have been around for a long time so it’s not like everyone did not know about them. Their small size means that they may eventually become very popular in the pet trade, but for now, “average joe pet shop guy” would prefer the better looking Columbian morph. I’m not in the snake selling business, so I’m no expert. I just wanted to point recent surge of the market.

Now some of the new morphs (i.e. motleys, T ) look super and the market should stay strong for those because they are not being imported and look great. Very expensive though. But being a ball python guy they are dirt cheap ; )

Granted with the pirces balls are going for you can make some serious money quick provided you can sell them and not just trade for everything under the sun. If you are looking for something that is going to last and provide a stable market in my opinion boas are the way to go. What it really comes down to though is breed what you love dont worry about the money and everything will be fine.

boa prices to be cheap. I do not deal with them. I think the ball market is extreme!

Hog Isle (futures) LOL!! Getting cheaper by the litter year after year, many top line breeders are close to bailing on those projects, although a few late comers are pushing for primo bucks........ their still feeding cause people arent paying "nuff said".
Nic's many have bailed on these as well"see above"

Wanna solid investment ? try sheetrock,lumber etc,etc
