Ring-neck basic care

TacomaUte Sep 19, 2005 10:36 PM

I caught a tiny beautiful ring-neck over by Ellensburg Wa. Can some one give me a few basics on care, such as temperature and what and how often to feed him. He's about half as big around as a pencil right now.

There's seems to be hardly any info on the web about ring-necks. I own a milk snake, gopher, and ball python but I'm sure the care for ring-necks is nothing like any of those.

Thanks

How big is it?

If it is small and you have no experience with ringneck snakes, I say let it go. You'll both be better off.

He's very small, as in he can curl up in the plastic top of a pop bottle. I do have him eating though. I went to a fishing supply store and they didn't have any small enough worms, so I bought maggots...disgusting I know but I saw him swallow one already. I'm gonna go hunt for some smaller worms but at least he's eating for now.

I would say release where you found him. It is illegal in the state of Washington to collect or keep any native species of reptile or amphibian without a scientific permit. The state does not issue any permits to hobbyists or anyone else other than established scientific facilities.
