This morning I was surprised to find that one of my female malagasy speckled hogs was dead. My first impulse was to check husbandry, etc.. While puzzling, I suddenly realized that I've had her for about six years, and I got her from a guy who had her for 3 or 4 years, and he got her from someone who'd kept her for several years after buying her as an adult WC import.
Most likely it was old age that caused her demise.
She was by far one of the gentlest creatures I've ever encountered. She would gently grasp f/t rat fuzzies by the nose, and wait for me to let go with the forcepts before eating.
My remaining 1.1 are almost as gentle. It was she who instilled my enchantment with the species, and she will be missed.
rgds,
althea
