New to BPs. Where to get one?

hornedfrog Sep 19, 2005 11:19 PM

Hi everyone! I'm pretty new to this forum. I am planning on getting my first BP by the end of this year. Can anyone recommend a good breeder? I am having a hard time finding one that will send me individual pics of normals. I decided that if I am going to have this snake for the next 20-40 years I want to at least be able to pick it out. Also, are there many hatchlings available this time of year? Thanks for your help!

Check out the classifieds, or if you want to, go to a REPTILE store. I have a couple in my area, and depending on your area, you may too. DO NOT BUY FROM PET STORE CHAINS! They are overpriced and not well taken care of. Make sure to check out the store before buying, and ask to handle the snake. If they won't let you, don't buy from them. Check for mites or anything that looks suspicious.
If you do want to go with a breeder, make sure that they are trustworthy and have references. There are people out there trying to scam people out of money and snakes. (Bastards)

Anyway, enough of my yammerin.
Good luck!

Thanks. Yeah, I don't really want to go with a reptile store. We have some around here (Fort Worth, TX) but I'm just not comfortable with that. I have a bearded dragon and a cornsnake, both from breeders. It's really hard for me to tell who's a scam and who's not. That's why I am asking you guys for referrals! =) Checkin out the classifieds right now. Any more tips are greatly appreciated!

The classified ads here are a good source to start with. The sponsers of this board are also a good place to check. Also read back on some of the posts on this board. A lot of the breeders have links to their websites on them. I hate to give a couple of names because there are many fine breeders on here and I would feel bad if I left one out.

I went to the classifieds and bought one from Dembinski Reptiles. He is a 2 month old 100% het high contrast albino male. I'm really excited. He should be here the middle of next week.
