e-collar for adopted ig lol help plz.

HerpGirl Sep 20, 2005 07:06 AM

I need some help brainstorming so I immediately thought of all of you guys here on kingsnake. I just adopted another ig(what can I say, theyre like potato chips, you cant stop at just one. J ) anyway, he is a male, I would guess about 2-2.5 years old because he is the same size, except with the bigger male features as my 2.5 year old female. He is feeding great and he loves my female (its sooo cute, he follows her everywhere, they have different cages of course tho) anyway, his nose is a bit damaged because he would constantly rub it against the rough wire on the sides of the cage he was in. the seems to be healing, its still a little pink and you can tell he had been doing it for quite some time because the are uneven,(above and below his nose) I have been afraid to put anything aside from water on it for fear he will lick it off and get poisoned. That’s not the problem but any advice on that would help too. The main problem is that on top of his head is a very sore area where his scales are not there… I think fleas were chewing at him because it looks like sever mite damage and they had over 20 cats where I got him from. He doesn’t have any fleas or mites now so its just a matter of getting it to heal. I have been daily washing it out with water, then hydrogen peroxide(3%) and then putting Neosporin on it. The problem is that he keeps scratching at it with his hind legs and ripping it open more so it wont heal. his nails are cut as far as they can be but it still scratches it open. Any advice would be greatly greatly appreciated. I cant think of what to do. That’s where the e-collar joke came in. lol. If only it were that simple. Please please help.
Thanks,
icy

Is there a way you can somehow wrap the wounded area? That way, his claws wont be able to scratch it.

Have you had him checked by a vet?
If not, you should, plus, he will help you with the issue.

I had an ig come in to our rescue with the same snout problem and I used silver sulfadiazine cream (1%) on it. It's healed up nicely now. You're on the right track but I agree with Iguana Joe, a vet visit is a good idea right now. Make sure you take him to a qualified herp vet though. Keep us posted. JN
