I have 2 Desert Horned Lizards and one of them has a crust or salt looking deposits around his nostrils while the other one doesn't. He is eating great and very active but once in a while will catch him rubbing his nose on a something to try and rid himself of it. I have tried a warm cloth but it did come back.

Any recommendations?

I have them setup in a 60 gallon-long tank with about 4" of playsand - not the calcium sand. One UVB lamp and another heat lamp.

Thanks,
Mitch

This shouldn't be a problem and is pretty typical. Diet can affect this to some degree. What are you feeding them?

Thanks Cable -

I am feeding 80% ants and 20% 2 week old crickets. The female loves crickets more than the ants.

I believe this may be a salt deposit as many lizard species get this around the nose. Chucks especially, but it's not serious as Cable has said, it ususally cleans off...only thing you would be concerned about is if he had a "runny nose" with bubbles or loose mucus coming out of the nose this would be a big concern, as long as it is dry it isn't anything to be too concerned about.
