Massassauga's...

goini04 Sep 20, 2005 01:49 PM

Hey all,

I am thinking about hitting up killdeer plains this sunday to see if it's possible to get a pic of a massassauga. Would it be too late in the year for them yet? I know Jason just posted a baby sauga pic, but just want to be sure that I still have time.

Thanks,

Chris

p.s.- What other snakes are there at killdeer to see, if you dont mind?

Chris -

I know that is knowledge fairly easily obtained, but I am not sure if posting it here was all that wise.

That being said I am not that familiar with the area, but this time of the year snake activity picks up again a bit and herping can be fairly productive.

What does Killdeer have?? Just off of the top of my head...

smooth greens
various garters
waters
milks
dekays
redbellys
kirtlands

Some of these are fairly hard to come by.

I would think it could have some of the other stuff too, but I know it does not have racers, so if you see one, take some pics...

Remember, much of Killdeer is completely off limits as a Wildlife Refuge. Stay where you are supposed to be, act responsibly and you should be all right.

Good luck,

Jason

Jason,

Good point, I guess I wasn't really thinking about it...like you said, this information is fairly easily obtained. I will try to remember that for the future. Sorry..didn't mean to step on anyone's toes. As for the info you provided..that is good. With things picking up a little, I hope I will be able to find some good stuff...which about right now, will be just about ANYTHING! I need a little bit more info if you don't mind Jason. I will contact you directly however, for that.

Thanks,

Chris
