gecko's setup - how to make better?

abbyn Sep 20, 2005 02:21 PM

(i posted this in Housing & Enclosures almost a week ago and haven't got any replies, so i thought i'd try here)

Does anybody have ideas on what I should do to make my gecko setup better? Currently it's very.... paper-towely.

You can see the tan rock on the left hand side of the picture, this is his dry, cool hide. The weird looking thing covered with paper towel on the left side is his warm, humid hide. (It's also got a wooden hide above, in case you were wondering what that was.) The front dish in the middle is his water dish, the dish behind that is where I feed him at. The small green dish by the warm hide is his calcium.

Thanks!

Sometimes things are better left. All my enclosures are very very simple. Containing the bare minimum of things needed, i like it this way as it makes my life soo much easier. Paper towels are easy to clean, cheap and a breeze to change. I currently have 5 leo's but if you have one and plan on only keeping one then you can do a number of things for a display tank. Firstly if your gecko is old enough and healthy you could use sand. Down to personal preference i hate sand simply because it's a pain and gets everywhere. You could also make your own rock formations or gather rocks and thoroughly clean them. You can add in plants live or fake ur choice. There are loads to do but it's down to you what sort of setup you would like! When i use to keep green anoles you could let ur imagination run wild on setup designs etc and my setup was amazing.Hope this helps some what.

Gilbert,I am gonna write this finally. I know you are trying to share your site with all the rest of us, but can you stop with the banner? I see all the photos on this forum, I always thionk you might have photos but instead its just the banner. No one else, not even the professional breeders do this. I am asking for anyone else who thinks this to add to my post.

LOL I guess I had never even clicked his link before. I don't see what the big deal is. I have seen breeders do the same thing on other forums I go to. Most at least have a link to their sites, which I like because I like checking out what they have available

Yeah, me too. I expect to see a new pic, but then it's just the banner. You're not the only one who sometimes surfs through here just looking at pics.

You could use some fake plants to cover the humid hide. Also, you could use some slate floor tiles for the bottom. You can get them at a home improvement store for less than 2 dollars a tile. A 12" by 12" tile will fit side to side in a 20 long or 29 gallon tank. You need 3 of them, with one cut to fit the last 5.75 inches (the store may cut it for you). The tile makes a big difference in appearance. Also, you could put your background paper around the sides as well.
