Need some expert help on water filters!!!!!!!!

reptileforest Sep 20, 2005 07:52 PM

Good evening folks,

I am soon to own a baby dwarf caiman and before that happens, I do need some expert advise on filters. As i need to buy a good filter that will create a waterfall plus be able to sufficiently clean lets say a 75 to 125 gallon tank for now. I never dealt with fish or filters, so I have no idea on which filter system to buy. Any affordable sites out here that sell them? Any advice will be appreciated.

most filters will be too hard to maintain or wont work with low water. i would use a pond pump and filter. this would give a lot of cleaning power and will easily pump up high enough to power your waterfall. i would get a filter for ponds at least 200 gallons. this ensures enough filter power and will allow you to use it later in a bigger enclosure. i would use a filter that sits outside the 'pond' so you dont have to worry about him going at you when you clean it. the pump will have to go in the water. the water could go from pump,, to filter, to waterfall. a prefilter on the pump will catch large particles preventing the pump from clogging up.

If you are going to use a filter from the pet stores, get one that has double the capacity of your tank. This keeps things really clean!
