I'd wondered if Janie would lay eggs, apparently she did but....
there won't be any babies. I thought I smelled skunk late last night and I know how much skunks like to eat eggs.
This evening I was out refilling water dishes when I found this hole in the ground that looked like it'd actually been dug out last night. The sprinklers go off in the middle of the night so it would've been a little bit muddy in that area while it was dark out. By this evening it was hard & dry, there were mammal footprints, busted up & dried egg shells all around it.
Oh well..

I'm really sorry to hear that. It sounds quite exciting to have baby turtles.

I'm not too unhappy about it but it would've been neat to see what Janie babies would've looked like. No telling who the father was since we picked her up off a busy highway.

I'm not too unhappy because as things are right now, if babies hatched they could walk out of here under the gate. DH plans to build a speed bump under the gate so that won't happen. He's going to build a new turtle pen too but he hasn't taken any vacation time yet to get it done. He's planning on that in Oct.
We don't want to keep any babies, if we ever do find any we want to get them out into the wild ASAP because our neighborhood is no longer a safe place for turtles to live in.
However we don't want them leaving here either because we don't want them wandering this unsafe neighborhood where too many people are building houses.
While I'm disappointed, I'm not crushed either.. it's just nature.
