K..............So, after talking to someone via KINGSNAKE.com, I have finally decided a rack system is not what I want for my set up. I was under the impression that a rack would be easy to control the temperature and easy to monitor. That turned out not so. I have a 2 degree temp. fluctuation drop on each level of my rack as you go down the rack. Meaning, the top rack is 86, the middle rack is 84 and the bottom rack is 82. I wanted to have ababy asian red-tail rat snake, a baby ball, an adult Honduran milk and a Cali. king in 1 rack. I don't think it will work. I think this type of rack is good in a room strictly temperature controlled. That I cannot gurantee because the room is my bedroom and I live in an apartment in the Boston area. Also, I think racks are best used with one species of animal in the entire unit and my rack has back heat; not belly heat. I do have a thermostat, not a rheostat.
That said, I will try to come up with another set up for my colubrids as individual species and easy to maintain. I appreciate everyones' help, tips and advice. There is still loads we herpetoculturists need to learn about care and sharing information via the internet is priceless. Thanks to everyone!
