Toad help please

I found this guy tonight in southern ontario, Canada. Can anybody ID it for me and explain the fieldmarks your using to ID it. Toads have always been tough for me.

Hi,

I think you've got a Fowlers (Bufo fowleri previously Bufo woodhousii fowleri) toad. They usually have more warts per spot (3 ) than American toads, and there are differences in the cranial bosses around the eyes and nose. Yours looks to have four or five warts per spot. The warts/spots thing usually confuses me when I'm actually holding a toad in the field, and I always have trouble with the cranial bosses, so what I usually use is the belly - Fowlers have mostly-blank, white bellies while American toads have a decent amount of black spotting.

You can also get an idea from the habitat. Fowlers tend to stick to areas with sandy soil.

Cheers,
Billy
