Behavior question... agression?

Misskiwi67 Sep 20, 2005 11:04 PM

I just got my replacement male mossy last week, and so far he seems to be doing fine. He's active, hunting, and looking well hydrated. He's more active than the female during the daytime however, the female usually stays in one position the entire day, and the male will switch spots 2-3 times, and seldom looks to be actually sleeping.

While the two of them completely ignored each other the first 3-4 days, the past couple days I've noticed them spending inordinate amounts of time side by side. Normally the female has one of 3 places to stalk crickets. The first couple days she utilized her normal positions, and the male would be either in a position on the other side of the tank, or hunting along the back wall. Yesterday they both hunted from the same branch (the females usual spot) and both spent the day on her normal branch, but out in the open, instead of hiding in the plant like the female usually does. Tonight I found them both sitting on the corkbark, a position the male has used for stalking, but the female hasn't used in weeks...

Are they fighting over the same spots maybe? I haven't seen or heard any signs of agression, but considering I was told my tank might be too cramped for two, I expected them to utilize the space a bit more, instead of following each other around...

Is there anything I should be watching for to determine if they need to be seperated?

well, neither of them should be movin around at all during the day unless theyre chasing crickets. mossies like it pretty cool and humid. they wouldnt be fighting over territory. theyre not really territorial like that. you can seperate them if you want. i probably wouldnt have put the newly aquired male in with your female to begin with, but its probably not that important cuz you said he looked good.
