Red Ears and Spiny Soft Shell...Help!

elgrano Sep 21, 2005 12:38 PM

Hi guys...please help me with this:
I just placed a baby soft shell turtle in the tank of my Red Ears Sliders...they immediately started biting the soft shell!. I put the soft shell in a separate container but my biggest concern is that the Spiny Soft Shell is not eating! I am giving him the same food as my red ears (pellets). Does anyone know what should I feed my Baby Soft Shell?

I really need your help!
Thanks!

Guppies, worms, pinkies, minnows etc. They are carnivorous. Try a food that moves a little like a worm or a stunned guppie or minnow.

considering the trauma he just went through i wouldnt expect him to eat just yet. the water should be shallow for him because he may not want to swim to much when eating. i used hagen max turtle gammarus pellets when i had FL softies and that worked well. they also like sand to bury in at a depth that while still buried they can get their snorkel out, this would also be a good depth because they could feed from there as well. pinkies are probably a bit much for him if hes still pretty small. what was he being fed where you got him? that would probably be the best bet if he was eating it. small earthworms might be okay but pull them out once they die or hes full. guppies would be good if you want to use live to get him to start to eat, but i would then switsh over to pellets, they dont introduce disease and parasites and the one i recommended is definitely balanced. dont use reptomin because it does not have vit D3.
