How stressful would it be.....

reflex21089 Jul 19, 2003 12:38 PM

How stressful would it be to switch my male from his 20L to a 16x23 bin and then put my female in the 20L....i want to do this cause my female is much longer than my male and i think it would be better or her to have the extra space.....she is also more active and a better hunter so it would be easir for my male to hunt in the bin....thanks a lot.

Are you talking about a topper wear??. Well, it shouldn't be stressing for him...but every gecko is different. When i first had my geckos in calci-sand and then swithed them all to topper wears most of them adapted pretty fast, others took longer. n/p

They are easy to escape from. I gave one of those a try once, and then one day I walked in to find one of my geckos squirming through the gap at the top of the drawer. He had climbed up on his humid hide and decided to make a run for it. Luckily I walked in when I did because he was almost loose. If you want to keep your geckos in storage-type boxes, I would recommend buying sweater or blanket boxes. They can be a pain, but at least they have lids that latch.

I have heard the Snap Topper containers are the best for holding snakes, and so would be great for holding leos (since snakes are better escape artists than most leos). These container's lids have 2 clips that snap the lid closed...all you would have to do would be to cut a square out of the lid and hot-glue over it the same type screening they use for tank lids. After that, you would only need some heat tape on a rheostat or thermostat and your good to go.

That's what I do with the sweater boxes, cut out the center part of the lid and my husband used rivets to attach aluminum screen over the cut-out lid, we also drilled holes on both the long sides of the containers for extra ventillation. Works like a charm!

I switched my male leo from sharing a 20gal long tank with my female leo to a 10 gallon tank all by himself and he is doing fine. They take a day or two to adjust to the new setup but that's it.
