Help with species ID on a few treefrogs

DNAgent Sep 21, 2005 05:29 PM

Hello,

I also posted this to the rec.pets.herp newsgroup, and they suggested I post here...

I just picked up these guys from a local pet store. They were labeled as "general Hyla" (obviously, not much help). Here are pics:

... any ideas what they are? I'm pretty sure they are a Hyla or
possibly Pseudacris species, but not one of the common ones. (The one with the reticulated pattern first made me think poison dart frog, but since they were likely captured at the same time, this seems unlikely.)

They are small, like an inch long or less. If I had to guess, I would have said, based on general size and body shape, Hyla regilla or Pseudacris crucifer... but I don't think it's either of those two, because they lack the right body patterning for the regillas, or the "X" shape found on the back for the crucifers.

Please post or email me with any ideas -- DNAgent@yahoo.com.

Thanks!

they are reed frogs.. the first is Hyperolius-puncticulatus and the second is Hyperolius marmoratus or hieroglyphicus i think... they are hard to identify due to hundreds of variations of colors and patterns depending on region, season and environmental conditions.. ... but they are most definitely reed frogs.. they are easy to care for and they are supposed to breed fairly readily in captivity..

there isnt a ton of info about care on the net.. but i followed this one and had good luck with mine..
