Breeding...

caecilianman02 Sep 21, 2005 07:41 PM

Hey all,

Started with the annual Diadophis breeding today. I have what I am pretty sure is a sexed pair of ringnecks. The female is a purebred prairie about 10 inches long. The male is an intergrade between a prairie and a regal about 18 inches long. I started today by seperating the snakes into seperate vivariums, stuffing them with worms, and am then going to let them clean their intestines out. What next?...

First of all... Keep feeding them. It is way too early for hibernation. Keep feeding them until the end of November. Then stop feeding them, don't offer them food for about 2 and a half weeks. Put them in a area where the temperature stays around a constant 50-55 degrees. Leave them in there until about April 1st-15th. Take them, give them a week to adjust to normal temperatures, feed them. About a month after hibernation introduce the male into the female's enclosure. If it's right after she has shed it will help alot, but it usually doesn't matter.
