Shedding problems - Please help!

dozitmatr Sep 22, 2005 01:12 AM

My snake is a wild Mountain Kingsnake which I caught about 4 mos ago. Since then he has shed twice with no problems the first time, and second came after I moved him to a larger encloser which was made of wood. It was too dry and I wasn't able to achieve the correct humidity. Second shed took much longer than it should have and I was starting to worry. I did all the things I've read to help him and when it actually started flaking all over, I got him into room temperature(little warmer)water and lightly rubbed it off. A day or two later he was fine. That was about 2-3 weeks ago. Skin was very shiny and bright. Now the problem is about 3 days ago he completely stopped being active (which is unusual for him) and his skin is very dull, dry, and his eyes are very cloudy and blue. I think this is too soon to be shedding again. I moved him out of that wood tank permanently and increased the humidity. What else can or should I do for him? Will he shed again so soon? Will he be okay? I don't want him to die. Please help someone if you can?
Thank you very much

I dont know if he'll shed that soon but its possible. One thing you can do is to provide a humidity box. You can use a tupperware container with a hole cut in it. On the inside put some moist paper towels or sphagnum moss. This will allow the snake to get in the box and sould help with the shed. Its best to only provide one during shed though instead of leaving it in there all the time. Good luck.
