Do Beardie's PMS??

chico32826 Sep 22, 2005 11:22 AM

I've got a little berdie who is around 2-3 months old andwhen I feed him I take him out of his tank and put him into a small tank with his crickets....so he doesn't get impacted from eating in his regular tank. Anyways, yesterday I go to pick him up and the little bastard started hissing at me and tried biting me, he even jumped at my hand to bite me. It was weird because he's never done that before. Nothing has changed in his environment so I'm not sure what triggered him to act like that. I also try to pick him up from below so i don't look like a predator and keep him a low stress as possible when handling him. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone else had problems like this, I started having problems picking him up because I was laughing so hard at this little dude trying to bite me. Also I've got leo's, bibrons, goldie's, cresteds and a iggy and haven't had problems like this before. Maybe he was just having a bad day.

Considering you are calling your dragon a he PMS is very unlikely. If he is really a she PMS would be followed by infertile eggs which is also unlikely due to the age of your beardie.

Some dragons do go through a period, or phase where they want no part with being held or human contact. Kind of like a teenage rebellious period. Most with regular handling, and time get passed this stage, and go on to become tame adults.

Just keep on handling him/her daily for short periods. It is possible you startled him or he just didn't feel like being messed with or held that day.

Wash your hands before handling each different lizard. Good luck.
