WC eastern Milk Question

the_ox Sep 22, 2005 01:05 PM

I was considering collecting a couple eastern milks from an area where they are extremely abundant here in Chicago. My concern is that they are already, or will shortly be going off food. What is the best way to deal with WC animals collected in the fall when they are naturally off food? Do I need to brumate them this early - a couple weeks after collecting, and count on them eating in Spring?

thanx for any response.

I would collect a couple and put them each in a cage and then wait a week then try to feed them pinkies and the ones that don't eat release them. Hope This Helps Scott

I think you're right, I don't want to risk harming any of these cuties [the bulldozers will do that just fine next year] I may wait until spring, when I know I could get the juvies to feed well and not compromise them at a crucial time of year, and also find many more to choose from. Thanx for the suggestion, and any more are welcomed.

Many eastern milks are poor eaters so if you find one that will eat right away keep that one. This time of year milk snakes seem to stop feeding
