The roads out (north, south, or west) of the Houston area are all but unpassable. People are actually grilling on the side of the roads...and running out of gas on the highways. 100 yards and hour doesn't make for very good progress. I fear many on the roads may be stranded there during the storm.

We have decided to weather things out here at home, despite wanting to leave earlier. We are safer here than in a car on the road. We would gladly leave if we could, but unless the roads clear up, we can't take the risk.

Those of you trapped on the roads...and those who are weathering it out like we are, I wish you all the best. Stay safe...and godspeed.

Maybe you should let those French Mastiffs out to show Rita what's up! If you can tolerate all the slober from those kids, what's a little Hurricane? Good luck and be safe.

We were lucky, the storm moved off to the east of us. We only received about 60mph winds and rain. My car received a bit of damage, but thanks to someone purchasing one of my boas yesterday (before the storm hit), the windows can be replaced. The house seemed to fare well. We've not been able to get a look at the roof yet, but what we have seen looks fine. Apparently, if we lost power, it was back up before we woke up this morning. We fared better than those in East and NE Houston, and of course those sitting on the coast and LA in Rita's path. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to those folk. As well as those that perished in the mad flight from the coast.
