Picture of my first 2003 hatchling

rnrlesnar Jul 19, 2003 01:47 PM

This one finished hatching last night. This is the one that came from an egg I found on the surface. I think I've got eggs buried at a better depth this year, because his yolk sac was completey diminished, while last year I had to put a good many of the hatchlings in containers with paper towels because they still had their yolk sacs and I was afraid they'd rupture it.

The picture is a little cloudy because my camera kept fogging up in this miserable heat and humidity down here, and I didn't want to use the flash on a new born.

Yeah, its always best to bury the eggs the same depth as they would be in the natural nest, that way by the time they make it to the surface the yolk is absorbed.

Congrats on your new baby! All five eggs from the first clutch I got this year hatched this week. I candled the four eggs from the second clutch about two weeks ago, and all showed veins. Hopefully in about three weeks I will have four more hatchling easterns to add to the five that hatched this week. I will get pictures of up of the first five soon. Anyway, good luck to anyone else incubating eggs!

Steve
