Feeding pixie and horned frogs

lenny Sep 22, 2005 07:33 PM

They are getting some size to them. Can I continue to feed them crickets or should I graduate them to fuzzies?

Stay away from pinkies, except as an occasional treat. Mamal fats for frogs are hard to digest. So I was told only once a month, maximum. Just make sure you dust your crickets with vitamins and calcium to keep your frog healthy.

How often should I dust the crickets?

Hey Lenny.

Well from what I have learned you should dust every second feeding. As over dusting can lead to problems. Just like a human, too many vitamins and your body can have problems. My frog though, only eats 2 or so while they are dusted, and 2-3 more left in the terrarium clean themselfs off before Chode eats them. So myself, I dust every time.

I also feed every 2-3 days.

So if your frog eats all the crickets you give him all at once, dust every other feeding. If not, dust every time.

Secondly, I heard new frogs should get dusted every time anyhow for growing bones. What I do I find is working well. Let me know how it works for you =)

Crickets should probably still be the staple of their diet. It's better to feed pinky and fuzzy mice sparingly, like every few weeks or once a month. Could also try offering feeder fish like guppies and platties instead of mice.
