Heating a wooden enclosure

make_urself Sep 22, 2005 07:48 PM

I was looking to buy some under the tank heat pads and saw one that looked to be a good price...a typical zoo med heat pad for 40-60 gal. However the seller says not to use on wooden r plastic aquariums. Now I know a warning is a warning but what are your alls experiences with them? if i sandwiched it between news papers and controlled it with a dimmer would i be ok? plz help. thx.

Your putting it inside the cage right??
If so then it will work fine. Just make sure you use a dimmer like you said. Alot of the heat pads out there get really hot. I have one that will get about 120 if you dont use a dimmer on it

I would highly recommend a Pro Product Radiant Heat Panel. I've been using them for MANY years at home and at the wildlife center that I run and our results have been amazing. You will not find a better product to heat wooden cages than these. They are mounted to the inside roof of the cage and are very easy to install. Well worth the initial investment.

Hi Rob, I've been interested in getting a couple of the heat panels. About how long do they last? And will they harm the burm if they touch it, since it's inside the cage? Thanks for any advice on the panels.
