Amphiuma care recommendations?

fenrisswolf Sep 22, 2005 10:26 PM

Hello everyone.

I've been considering getting a three toed amphiuma, and was wondering if anyone on the board has had any first hand experience or recommendations regarding their care?

I have found a number of caresheets online, as well as a dealer that has some in stock, and think I have a grip on most of the basics, but it would nice to know what someone who's kept one before has to say about them.

I'll just say this: They are easy to keep and care for. 've had mine for almost 10 yrs now. I don't want to go into too much detail about how I care for mine as there are too many critics out there that downgrade my ways and experiences with any of my animals.

i know of very few aspects of the care of any animal that everyone agrees on, almost none. however, they cant argue with ten years of success. and considering the rarity of the animal in question any successful experience is needed in the hobby, evenn if its not what a book or a website may suggest.

At least one of the people who wrote the care sheet on caudata culture provided above has kept a colony of A. pholeter for at least 10 years.

Other than A. pholter, Amphiumas tend to be common within thier range. Where they reach the ends of thier range they are rare but in the core sections they are quite common.
