my crested doesnt stick???

djseibert68 Sep 23, 2005 02:10 AM

i have two young cresteds, and im pretty new to this. i know enough to understand thet they are to young to be sexed, they are in seperate 10 gal. tanks untill i know more. but one doesnt stick to anything as well as the other. basically when i try to hold or remove one, my smaller yellow one is gone in leaps and bounds. but my slightly larger orange one will leap and stick to the tank but very soon after it seems to slide... not sure why, any ideas?

Has your gecko retained any shed on the toe pads? That would be where I look first. I had a baby with a similar issue when she was small. She has learned to stick to everything now, so it may also be something they grow out of. I could be wrong there too, but that's my experience with that particular problem.

thanks for the help... that was actually the first thing i looked for (0.0.2 crested, 1.0.0 leopard, 0.1.0 cat.... many fish) my leo taught me that, and the crested seems to be cool. havent seen a shed of any sort yet on either of them. nor have i seen any signs of a shed. which i understand to be better than dead skin stuck to the gecko... any other ideas

I just had to be patient with the one I have that didn't stick. One day she just "got it" and stuck to everything.

the only thing that got me trippin on the situation was this one is a bigger than the other. i had them together at first and seperated them out of fear of their sex.id include pics if they did the geckos any justice [camera phone]

When crested geckos are going into shed, they loose their 'stickiness' for awhile. If there are no signs of old unshed skin around the toes, just make sure the humidity is good and wait for a couple days. I am sure she will shed and will be climbing everything as normal.

I agree with LdyPayne on this. One of my cresteds was ,only a week ago, climbing all over everything and sticking very well. The other day I noticed that it has been in it's moist hide a lot and was no longer climbing. Now I see that it is becoming that pale and irridesant color, which happens right before a shed. I wouldn't worry about it. It's probably just getting ready to shed. I would imagine it would be hard to climb glass when you have an extra layer of dead skin stuck to you! Good luck.
