Is Aloe okay?

decacerata Sep 23, 2005 04:00 PM

I'm confused. I've seen many people and places saying that aloe vera is okay for russians, and then I've seen places say it's toxic so avoid it. I bought some today but now I'm half weary about giving it to my torts and wanted some opinions from you guys. Thanks!

It shouldn't be toxic to them but in my readings through different books, websites, groups etc. etc. that pertain to sulcata, not Russians....the info I've found says to use it sparingly because it can cause diarrhea if they eat too much of it.
I'm interested to know what other opinions might be.

Mine eat it in small amounts along with Sedums and I see no obvious problems. Strive for a varied diet, it helps "cover the nutritional bases" and "buffers" our errors... When I trim my Aloes or Agaves, I trim off the sharp spikes (if any) and toss the leafs in, they are quickly eaten.
