I came home with my turtle light off, and thought that I forgot to turn it on. Well I clicked it and nothing happened and I took the hood up and the light I had just bought yesterday had just fallen apart. The same thing happpened with my nightlite only I broke it gently screwing it in. There is alot of water evaporating to the top. I found the peices in the water, and checked my turtles for cuts. How can I prevent this? How does this happen? Do I need to get a clamp lamp? I tried this before and it would never get on the basking lamp. Any ideas?

the only time i have had a bulb bust over water, besides my mom knocking it into the tank, was when a turtle jumped in the water and the splash apparently hit the bulb and it exploded. this has only happened once. i use clamp lamps on my turtle tanks, over open water. i just clamp them on the side of the tank angled down at their basking log. if you dont have a clamp lamp, what kind of light do you have?

Probably a tube in a hood? That's a dilly b/c if you put a layer of glass or something between the bulb and the water, it filters out rays.

Yeah my water level is a little higher because the only filter I have right now is a canister but it's not so high that they might touch the bulb. Really it has very low sucking power but the filter cartridge seemed to be working. When I ran out( I had one cartridge with the filter when I got it from somebody ) I figured walmart would have it but somehow they didn't. So its apparently got a new name and this one is manual where the one before you just stick it in the filter. This one you put the rocks in wash it off and all that and I noticed that the sucking power went down with this new filter. I asked someone and in a new box the only part it had that myne didn't is this new clear part. Myne isn't clear. Can someone help me with this filter until I can get my other filter?

Right now I'm using a Whisper under gravil type filter. It's on the cheap side. It makes a waterfall. This is until I get a turtle filter. I'm busy looking for the perfect light right now, the filters comes next.

Ebay has some VERY good deals on filters, try looking there.
