9/11/05 Baby BRB PICs

Jeff Clark Sep 23, 2005 06:08 PM

...These are some of the babies that were born here on the 11th. This litter was actually shedding a little later than the 9/12 litter. All have finished their first shed today. Most of these are darker than the other litters. This first one has the best bullseyes of any this year. Unfortunately this snake was born with large swollen eyes. I was going to put the snake down but have decided to see if the swollen eyes may be an infection and if it will clear up. There was some improvement after the skin was shed.

I have used shoeboxes for individual housing of little BRBs in the past. The problem with shoeboxes is that they take up too much space for the size inside the box. I got these clear plastic boxes from Pioneer Plastics and am trying them this year. This size box is actually advertised by Pioneer as a small animal cage/mini aquarium. I bought some other ones that are a little larger. They are designed for displaying 1:24 scale model cars and have a ridge around the lids and are stackable. The ones designed for animals have a very small airhole in the lids. I used a soldering iron to make airholes around the edges of all of the boxes.

That's a graet idea using the plastic boxes. Thanks for mentioning a possible problem with one of yours. I hesitated to post my stuff stuff although I figured it would do more good than harm. I suspect euthnasia is alot more common than we would admit to.....not just on this forum.

Dave,
...The ones I like best are the ones for model car display. They come in different sizes for the different scale model cars. I got the 1:24 scale ones and they were $2.23 each in the case of 24. They are 9X4.3X4.1 inches. The other ones I got are smaller around 8X4X4 but they were about a dollar less per box. The display ones have a ridge around the edge of the top for stacking and this also makes them have a more secure feel when putting the top on. Shipping for 48 boxes to me here in GA was around $25 so a little over 50 cents per box for shipping. I stack a bunch of these inside my larger cages. I can put over 50 of them in a 48 inch cage where I used to only be able to stack a couple dozen shoeboxes. The larger sizes of the model display ones would work good for on table display of larger animals at shows. I used to use their round plastic containers for shows. Soldering iron works good for making airholes. The plastic is so hard that it does not easily scratch but also does not easily work with drills for making airholes.

Those babies are nice. It seems all of your animals have such great crescents. I got a few this year with nice fat crescents too. I'll post some pics later.
