I have a Hog Island Boa and he is about 3-4 feet. I gave him a pre killed/live rat he did'nt seem interested in it when I gave it to him so I left it in the cage over night the next morning it looked like he tried to eat it, half of it was slimy.

Maybe try a smaller mouse. How long have you had it? Derek

Yes, it may be too large for him, but if he's eaten that size many times before, than that would not be the problem. Try to open his mouth and see if you see any discoloration or pustules.
Mouth rot or UR (pain or difficulty breathing) can also cause him to reject half eaten prey. If either of those could be an issue, get him to a vet. Good luck with him!
