Welcome to kingsnake.com's message board system. Here you may share and discuss information with others about your favorite reptile and amphibian related topics such as care and feeding, caging requirements, permits and licenses, and more. Launched in 1997, the kingsnake.com message board system is one of the oldest and largest systems on the internet.

I was also told that... UPS allows you to freely ship certain reptiles. You just can NOT ship snakes through UPS. Other restrictions are listed on the UPS web site somewhere (you may have to do some searching to find it). Personally, FedEx seems to be the way to go these days.

The thing that sways me towards UPS is because I do not need to go thru all those hoops like Fedex requires.
What hoops are refering to? I went through the certification/approval process for FedEx and it was very easy. All it takes is a little time on your part. It was simple.
It's better to do things the right way than to risk the destruction or confiscation of a package because of shipping a prohibited animal (like a snake for example) through UPS. I know it's hypothetical but it could probably happen and I'm sure it will eventually if it hasn't happened already. Some UPS centers are cracking down on the shipping of reptiles they prohibit, such as snakes. UPS, as a company, has made it clear (at least to me) that they do not want that business.

I was not refering to shipping snakes, just monitor.
UPS will allow shipping of some live reptiles but the catch is that they do not allow the standard shipping boxes. They must have a 250-pound burst and must be new unused boxes.
250-pound burst boxes are special order boxes that take some time to get (for me about 2-months) and cost about 4-times (for me that is in 100-lots) that of a standard shipping box. Some UPS offices check closely and will return your shipment with no refund (it cost me almost $90 in return shipping).
Just curious, am I the only one who has had shipments returned due to the wrong boxes? The standard Styrofoam lined fish boxes or Styrofoam lined reptile boxes are not acceptable by UPS.
