Oregon Cal Kings

BBBruno Sep 24, 2005 07:51 AM

I frequently check this forum, and am always impressed with some of the beautiful Kings that people are working with (a pair of Mississippi Delta holbrooki come to mind most recently). In a collection now reduced to 34, my only Kings are my pair of Cals from southwestern Oregon. I'll be getting a digital camera soon, and will post photos. Of all the Kings I've ever worked with, (and every getula has been here at one point or another), these are by far my favorites. They have a blue-black coloration with tight yellow bands, and breed every year (I wish my Pines were that consistant, only have eggs from lodingi and mugitus this year). I have 7 babies left, and have not decided which pair I'm going to keep. Is anyone else out there working with Oregon Cals? If so, let's compare notes.

Dear Bart, I am not but I am intrigued by your description. Yellow bands? I have not seen yellow bands in the Northerly population, so I will look forward to your photos. We have handsome kings here in the Northern Sacramento valley, butthe ones I see are primarily dark chocolate brown with white thin bands. A few are very light brown, almost cinnamon colored. Post those photos, inquiring minds want to know!
