keia89 Sep 24, 2005 04:08 PM

hello again, this morning after i posted me new foods post my female attacked my male beardie, she bit my males tail and took some scales off and he was bleeding a little bit, i immediately took him out and gave him a warm bath, cleaned the wound with 3% peroxide and put some ozonol ointment and a bandaid over the area to keep it cleen, i also put my female in another tank cause i dont want her attacking him again. the cut isnt that deep so i dont think he needs to see a vet, what else should i be doing?

they are in about a 70 gallon tank, theyre almost 10 months old and my female is definately not gravid, my male has been domniating her for a couple of days but she was doing it back to him so i thought they were just establishing a pecking order so i left them alone. theyve been together since they were eggs (brother and sister) i bought them together and theve been in the tank together since day one. they both have been kinda moody cause theyre about to do a large shed but usually they just stop eating, no0t bite eachother.

Your males tail should be fine, keep the wound clean and continue to apply neosporin. you can also flush it with dilute betadine if needed.

As to their behavior your lizards are getting older and may not get along as well. Even if they aren't going to fight, its time to separate them. They are about at breeding age, and since they are brother and sister they should not be allowed to mate. Set up a permanant cage for the female.

Good luck!

Hi
yep i agree with altermind.
beardies should be separete round the 4,5 month.
r when you see breeding behavour like biting neck .
when you not have a brother and sister you can put them togheter when they r 18 months old.
then the female is ready for eggs.
to soon wil afect her grow.
if shedding go slow then mist them couple time a day .

To keep older males and females together, you are going to need a SERIOUSLY large enclure with lots of visual barriers.

Something that makes it so they cannot see each other. Tall flat rocks, or walls, and plants.
