Sick - Spasms- Dizzy - HELP

mcnugent Sep 24, 2005 04:51 PM

This is the 2nd time this has happened to my dragon. First time it happened on a Friday, and couldnt get a vet appointment till Monday - and by monday it was gone. This time it happened on a THrusday and again i have to wait until Mon for an appointment.

He seems to be extremely dizzy - he has spasms- I'm pretty sure its something with compactin but i dn- last time it just suddenly went away.
His head will just spasm in all directions uncontrollably. Still eats and does everything normal - just has spasms.

This ever happen to anyone else ?
any advice ?

It can be several things, without knowing more info on him and his set up it is impossible to even try to give you some things to try until you can get him to a vet.

If it is impaction, what is his temps, what are you measuring it with, what are you feeding him and on what substrate is he on.. also what supplements

If it is related to lack of Vitamin B, expecially B1, again what are you feeding him and his supplements

If it is lack of Calcium, what UVB are you using, what supplements and what greens is he offered and eating?

If it is viral... you need to know more info about his parents or dragons he was kept/exposed to

If it is stress related, you need to check what his situation is now, in with other dragons? dark in color.. etc

Bacterial infections is another possibility, URI, Ataxia... just so many things and with no more info than what you gave, its hard to even guess

Hi
it sound like he not get uvb/uva to get his calsium in his system.

r you give to large prey items.
r prey items that r hard to digest r to low basking temp to digest it properly.
never give mealworms hard to digest and can give impactions.
never give cricks that r bigger then space between the eyes.

110 it should be on hotspot .
cooler side round 80.
good luck

ya im pretty sure it was some mealworms i gave him
it usually is fine and i sometimes give hima few mealworms even tho i knwo they are bad- he loves them and i make sure they are small.

My mom fed him one day tho and said he went to eat one and got like 3 at once- which im positive is why hes now messed up - but he is still going to the bathroom and hasnt got better - is that a bad sign ?

Hi
dont give the mealworms .
i not even give them to my adults .
i think a cricks smaller then the space between the eyes is best you can give to small beardies.
how big is he ??

What do you have for UVB access? How old is the bulb?

What are you supplenting with and how often do you supplement.

This sounds like a pretty serious issue, if you havent already then call and make the soonest appointment you can with a good herp vet.

If you are thinking its an impaction caused by the mealworms try to keep him very hydrated to help him pass it. Long warm water soaks a couple times a day should help.

Is he still showing the symptoms from before? You really need to get to a vet before this gets worse...

Well once again, it went away after 2 days, and hes perfectly fine again. While it happens he still eats and everything normal, just has bad spasms.

One thing i noticed, BOTH times right after spasms stopped, his head began to shed alot. Is there any way that it could be something with shedding ?
