Hi everyone,

I've always loved monitors, and would like to keep one eventually, but I have no idea what is out there to choose from. Are there any sites that go over all the different species' sizes, temperaments, etc.? Or could anyone give me a quick "primer" on the different species that are available in the trade? I don't even know what to search for in a search engine since I don't know the majority of the species' names.

My Growing Zoo:

1.0 Husband (Byron) ^_^
0.1 black cat (Shade)
0.1 Brazilian Rainbow Boa (Zia)
1.0 Leucistic Ratsnake (Houdini)
1.2 Cockatoo cichlids (A. cacatuoides yellow-gold)
1.2 Panduro cichlids (A. panduro)

if you want something small but totaly awsome check out some red or yellow ackies ,they only get about 24" they are more expensive to start with but in the long run you wont have the giant food bill of a large monitor, plus you can get 3 or 4 in the size cage you would need for a savannah, 6'by3'by3' , lenth by width by hight, or a savannah is good it gets about 4' and tend to be pretty well tempered

After looking around a bit, I really do like the ackies! At first, I didn't think I liked them, but I had them mixed up with skinks... Don't know how that happened. (My experience is with snakes, and I don't know much about lizard species.)

What about the other dwarf monitors such as freckled monitors and a few others? Can't find much info on them compared to the ackies.
