Am I a baby Corn?

john_kristian Sep 24, 2005 09:34 PM

Found in Bowling Green KY on 9/20.

Kids are hoping I'm a corn, because new family has a 5.0 BRS. I am eating well already. I heard someone say that the corns in the guide books look pretty dark, so I could be one. Can someone let my new family know?

is where I can be seen...

Thanks everyone.

I dont have much experience with snakes beyond corns, but I'd say that is not a corn snake. The wonderful people in this forum are really knowledgeable, and I'm sure somebody will be able to tell you exactly what kind of snake you've got there. I dont think its a corn, but I'm a little drunk too.

I do not think it is a Corn, the eye is awful big. Could be a juvenile Racer of some type? Tom Stevens

That's exactly what I thought. I'd bet money that that is not a corn snake. Perhaps a garter snake of some sort.

goregrind Sep 25, 2005 06:31 AM

definetly not a garter, they have stripes and small checkers

It is either a black rat snake (which make great pets as well) OR a northern black racer (hell on earth) give it a few years and post another pic

I'd go with a northern black racer as well. I'm curious, how has it's temperament been?

Interesting comments on temperament. Rather fiesty and will stike at movement even when in hide. When out can just jet around unlike any small snake I have ever seen. Faster than water falling off your palm...

Traci Sep 25, 2005 10:37 AM

unfortunately they do not make good pets because of what you described.

There are grey rat snakes but that is not one.
That is a juvenile black racer and no matter how they try it will alwya be a little terror.
I would release back where I found it

The large eyes are the dead give away when you compare to rat snakes and the bands in their pattern are not as blocky as rat snakes tend to be.

Racer or coachwhip - look at the eyes. No doubt in my mind about it.
