Some pics of some Costa Rican BT's......and a few of my honeymoon trip

bthacker Sep 25, 2005 12:05 PM

I went to Costa Rica for ten days after tying the knot and had a blast. Checked out a bunch of Serpentariums but by far my favorite experience was visisting Reptilandia owned by Quetzal Dwyer and Monica Perez. They have had success breeding some BT's and took out a pair. The male was kind of big. For reference Quetzal is 6'2".

About sighting any, I think I might have seen one in Monteverde but I wasn't quick enough to grab him but it's tail looked very familiar, lol. I did talk to one guy from the Arenal serpentarium, he said his BT's weren't on display for breeding purposes. The weather there was wet and humid and alot cooler up in Monteverde at an elevation 4,200 ft.

If you haven't been to Costa Rica I would recommend it and go check out Reptilandia. Quetzal and Monica are some of the nicest people I met down there and they have alot of cool reptiles and great displays.

Fantastic pics! I enjoy seeing other people's facilities as it gives me new ideas on how I can improve my wildlife center's reptile exhibits. Looks like you had a terrific time.

Quetzal and Monica's Park was awesome. Their outdoor enclosures could allow for rain or sun with the use of a mechanical winch opening up the panels. It was pretty neat. I know it's a little difficult to have outdoor dispaly in the USA but his serpentarium was the best I had seen in Costa Rica. His animals were all top notch and I was so grateful for being told about it by the hotel proprietor where we stayed at the night before. It's not in the book and we would have totally missed it if it were not for her telling us.

Hopefully my wife and I can get to see your place someday. It sounds nice and I would love to see your Crotalus display. No matter how many times I have been to Zoos or seen the same animals over and over it's great to see them in displays that are nicely presented.

Thanks-

Brett
