nose rubbing

RadioactiveDude Sep 25, 2005 01:15 PM

My king snake constantly is rubbing it's nose against the glass (no abrasions). I've looked up some care sheets and it said that I should change it's habitat. So what kind of habitat should i change it to. Currently my snake is in a 10 gallon aquarium. It has a hide on the heated side as well as water. It also has a branch to climb.

I got a Mexican Black King, it's about 19.5 inches long, and it shed a week ago (nice clean shed).

Try a 20 gallon, two hides and what kind of substrate are you using?

Both of my snakes do this from time to time. I just assumed it to be sort of a "normal" thing if you wanna call it that. I wasn't aware that it was a habitat problem. They both have PLENTY of room to move. My hatchling Goini has a 15 gallon tank and my 10 month old Hypo. Brooksi has a 45 gallon tank. They're temps. range from 73-78, down to about 70ish at night time, so I don't think I've been doing anything wrong. I can't wait to hear what others have to say about this...

I'm using Desert Blend Lizard Litter, it's non-toxic and it easily passes through the digestive system (sand)

I cant help but to think when I see a snake that is rubbing it nose and moving all the time that it is looking for something it doesnt have. If you have a hide and heat and water try offering it food items a little more often see if it is searching for food. Just watch the snake and try to figure what it is looking for.

My mbk's are fairly active and have a voracious appetite. They don't wander a lot except when I come into the room, when they stretch to the top to check out what I'm doing. They are all on aspen and I don't see nose rubs, but all my snakes explore when first brought in. Seems they never tire looking for a way out. Then eventually they settle down. Try the aspen. Good luck.
