Examples of Gray Treefrog crypsis

Colchicine Sep 25, 2005 06:59 PM

First one shows the typical substrate, found here in SE Va, that Gray Treefrogs hide on.

The second one was a new substrate to me, on a Loblolly Pine about 4ft high. The frog was noticeably darker, to help blend in with the darker bark. It may be hard to find, look just to the left of center of the photo. Look for the characteristic X on the back of Gray's.

You're going to have to draw a bloody circle round the frog in the second one... it's like a magic eye trick!
