Update on Gecko/Question on Quarintine

ZeR0 Jul 19, 2003 06:02 PM

My gecko Aurora layed her 7th clutch last week and since then has been eating more than ever, a real eating machine now. The day after laying she had a pinky and 3 supers, and since then has had atleast 5 supers a day. The past two days shes eaten 7 supers, she normally has 3 or 4 a day, instead 6 or 7, its crazy. I think she may be done laying, and after 7 clutches, she looks better than when she started laying, doing really good. She also is losing spots, and has lost atleast 3 since I got her. She used to have 10 now she has 7.
My city (Edmonton, AB) is having a show in a couple months, and I might be getting another leo to go in with Aurora, of course after quarintine though. Do you think 3 months is long enough of a quarintine period? Cant remember where I read it, but it said atleast 3 months, think it might have been the leo manual. Anyway, I wanted to get a patternless, possibly a bay, that way by the time its big enough to go in with aurora quarintine would be well over. How long (adverage) would it take for a 3 or 4 inch gecko to be big enough to go in with Aurora? Shes about 9.5 inches. Since I bought Aurora as an adult, I dont really have an idea how fast babies grow. Sorry about the long post, Im bored. Later

My vet said that that was the old days, if you buy a gecko who is very healthy, from a respected breader, checked over by a vet and not exibiting any signs of ill-health then I was told 3months is good. If lacking ANY of those requirements longer may be necessary (like for instance the new gecko is from petco then someone could quarantine for 6months to a year to minimize chance of exposure to an established healthy gecko). Some things out there make me shudder.
