I just heard my ball gurgle

jungletojungle Sep 26, 2005 04:24 AM

I thought she was defecating but when I looked she had her mouth open and was making that sound with her mouth. She s-curved into a strike position while she did this. I have never seen her do this but I do recal other nights where have heard this and been unable to find a dirty cage. She stopped when i opened her cage and went back to normal. Does anyone know what this could be a symptom of or what could possibly cause it?

This time however she did poo but she still had her mouth open like she was regurgitating...she was last fed four days ago so i don't think that is what it is...is this just abnormal defication abd not an illness?

Can you tell us if something changed recently? Did you add another snake to your collection? Did you switch where you purchase your mice/rats or go from live to frozen? I had a similar situation when I added 2 new females to my collection and the vet stated it was a bacteria (this was a few years ago so I am sorry I forgot what it was) and he gave them a shot (again it was a while back but I do remember it was a shot mostly used on horses) and they were fine after that and have never done it again.

Thanks,
Mohamed

From your explanation, it sounds like it could very well be a repiratory infection (RI). If she's breathing with her mouth open and/or blowing bubbles in her mouth and making a slight popping sound when she breaths, then it's RI. Turn up the temp in her enclosure to upper 90s in the hot spot and take her to a vet to get her checked out. Good luck!

she isn't blowing bubbles nor does she seem to have any kind of moisture in her mouth...it almost seems like she's constipated. anthropomorphising and all since i know that isn't what a snake would do when constipated and she isn't. She isn't breathing oddly and she is eating fine. We have been having a problem lately of our rats getting thin for no reason and dying. About 1 in 24 a day and i haven't changed anything. they aren't even in the same building and she eats our mice. we haven't had a problem with them. could this have affected her?

When the humidity is too high like after she dumps her water bowl.
Sounds like a big burp, & it's loud......
