Hi Folks; what would be the normal growth rate of eastern indigos, Male & Female. (in captivity)
ex: 1 year - 3 ft
2 year - 5 ft
I've seen many postings with sizes that just blow mine away.
I'm puzzled
thanks, Mark

Hi Mark!
I can only speak from my limited experience.
I have only owned 3 couperi, one of which turned out to be a dwarf(the breeder is graciously replacing her)& at nearly 3 years of age was barely over 3 ft. long.
My 2 year old female is just over 5ft, and my yearling male is between 3.5 & 4ft.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Eric; Yes your information helps. It puts things in perspective. I'd like to hear from some others too. Funny I have a dwarf too. I guess there more common then I ever thought.
I'm hoping the 4 year old Female will breed successfully this year. It would be great to hatch out my own brood. It's been a long time with many disappointments

mark, eric's info is about right on. baby drys will easily eat several times a week for some time [about a year] before they slow down 'some'. consequently, appreciable growth results.....of course, in the wild they don't get that kind of room service but if they did, they certainly wouldn't refuse. lol! feed 'em good just don't get 'em fat.........
Mines just over three yrs. old
Pushing 5 maybe 5 1/2 (haven't bothered measuring).
He HAS slowed down in how how MUCH he wants to eat at once. Plenty healthy though.
I guess they don't need as much when they get bigger. Typical indigo though. Take him out of the cage and people see how mellow he is and they aren't scared to handle.
My Mother in law even held him. If THAT doesn't tell you how unscary indigos are to handle....
I'll post the pic of THAT when I get it sent to where I'm at.

Well I guess my female isn't too far off....she's right around two years old now and at last measurement she's 44". I've seen many 2-3 year old Indigos as well as pics, and she actually has them beat as far as thickness goes (definately not fat)so I'm hoping she goes on a bit of a growth spurt and get's some length on her soon.
Hi Mark,
Hope there's Eastern hatchlings across the border next June. Eastern pair I kept back from 6/04 are currently 50 in.(male) and 42 in. (female). There mother was a seven ft. female here on a breeding loan. Hopefully, they'll approach her size in a few years.
THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES. IT'S GREAT HAVING KNOWLEDGABLE PEOPLE OUT THERE WILLING TO SHARE THERE INFORMATION.
I APPRECIATE IT.
MARK
